Oceanic Atolls & Seamounts: Twilight to the Deep Ocean

A brief compilation of footage presented at the Distinguished Lecture Series given by Dr. Sonia J. Rowley 27th October 2016, The first part includes research filmed from the Twilight Zone of Pohnpei Island, Pakin and Ant Atolls in the Federated States of Micronesia by Dr. Sonia J. Rowley and Dr. Richard L. Pyle, also featuring Brian D. Greene. The second part is a complication of clips mostly by Luis Lamar and some from HURL (Hawai’i Undersea Research Laboratory) on the Geologist seamounts Cook and McCall, and Lōʻihi Seamount, the youngest in the Hawaiian island chain. Enjoy the beautiful corals of the Geologist seamounts and the surprise Pacific Sleeper Shark in Pele’s Pit!

The majority of this footage has been taken of areas previously unexplored, and species new to science using cutting edge closed circuit rebreather technology and decades of experience of both rebreathers and by HURL in the Pisces subs. Sub pilots Terry Kerby and Max Cremer, with the latter expedition generously funded by Conservation International led by Dr. Greg Stone and M. Sanjayan. Mahalo nui loa.
